Who built Lo Moon ?

English text

What’s the reason behind the name of your band ?

I named the band after my nephew! His name is Lowell Moon Hum! He is very special to me!

What’s the story of the song Thorns?

Thorns is about the growing pains in a relationship. There’s a beauty to the arc of a relationship, and the commitment it takes to make it last, and make it work. There’s a give and take and the passing of time will affect that in many different ways. Every relationship stays with you and there’s something very fascinating to me about the reflection process. Committed love is a really beautiful thing.

How easy was the recording process of your first album?

We worked very hard on the first album. It wasn’t easy, and for all the right reasons, but it was an amazing experience. We became a band during the process and learned so much about each other as musicians. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to deliver something we could be proud of and we’re so excited to share it!

What are your best memories of this recording process?

To be honest one of the most memorable moments happened the night of the Bataclan attack. We were in the studio and Chris Walla (our producer) Charlie (who played drums) along with Sam all knew someone effected. We were heartbroken and couldn’t really do anything. I sat down at the mellotron and started playing this piece that Chris Walla (producer) started recording and manipulating on his tape machine with various effects. We were all reacting to a terrible moment and trying to get through it together with music. It was a moment we will always remember, and reminds you of the power of music. I would also mention finally figuring out the bridge and arrangement of Loveless was pretty amazing. It took us a long time to crack the code of how that song would be built and through a jam we felt it all click. It was amazing to have a song that was around for that long finally find its full potential.

How did your find your sound?

I would say the easiest answer to this is that I wrote a bunch of songs that definitely didn’t work. I think through trying a bunch of different things I was finally excited by Loveless. That’s the song that defined the direction for me, and a light when off. I thought it had something nothing else I had done and I was excited to share it with people, so I knew that must have been a good sign.
