Mozes and the Firstborn, pop post-Dadcore

Mozes and the Firstborn était le meilleur secret des Pays Bas.

English text

Why did you work with 4 engineers during the Dadcore recording process ?

Melle Dielesen : were writing and recording songs in a wide variety of styles. Our plan from the beginning was to incorporate all these different sounds on Dadcore. We started working on a track-to-track basis. Whenever a song felt ready to go we looked for the places and people that we thought would fit the track. We ended up working with 5 different mixing engineers and 7 different recording engineers on this record. Working with Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beache House), co-producer and mixer on 6 tracks, was a real eye-opener. Next level Mozes!

How did you meet the team of Burger Records ?

In 2013 we played Eurosonic in Groningen for the first time. Another Dutch band had invited Lee of Burger Records to come over and he saw us play incidentally. Lee flew back to the States and told his partner-in-crime Sean all about us. That resulted into us being the first international band to do a big release on Burger.

What’s the story of Sad Supermarket Song ?

It sorta started as a joke. For some time I heard a lot of big-sounding rock tearjerkers on the radio of my supermarket. It sparked the idea of this lonely person walking through the aisles being completely absorbed by a sad supermarket song. My initial intention was to write something that’s poppy enough to make it to the playlist of my supermarket. I believe it will one day.

What’s the reason behind the name of your new album ?

It’s a description of my particular style of clothing. That’s what Raven, Corto and another friend came up with. We started digging the term and it got us thinking. If you ask a random kid on the street today what rock music means to him, he’s likely to answer: « I dunno. It’s something my dad listens to. » This record is a love letter to rock music and the magical world that we operate in a as a band. Hopefully Dadcore can convey that feeling to a younger crowd.

What are your projects for 2019 ?

Tour, tour, tour! In a week we start our first US headline tour with our Spanish friends The Parrots. 30 shows in 33 days. After that we go straight back to Europa to play our home country, Germany, Belgium, England and France. We play the Supersonic in Paris on March 11th.
